The Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Forum

What is the Forum?

The Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Forum are leading the development of the Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Strategy, launched by the Secretary of State for Health  on 26th January 2012. The forum is co-chaired by CDC Director Christine Lenehan.

The Forum's Report

The Forum submitted its final report to the Department of Health on 26th July 2012.

The Forum's report includes several key recommendations specifically relating to disabled children and young people including:

  • Improving the information that the NHS and schools capture about disabled children and young people, to support better identification and better commissioning of services.
  • Strengthening the voice of disabled children, young people and their families.
  • Ensuring every level of the NHS has clear strategic leadership for children and young people, to drive service improvement and integration of services.

A further brief analysis of the report, produced by CDC, can be found at this link.

Read Christine's joint letter with Forum joint chair Professor Ian Lewis, Medical Director at the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, to Secretary of State Andrew Lansley to accompany the report.

You can also listen to Christine and Ian talking about what they hope the Forum's report will achieve and how this change can be made a reality.
